2023: The Politics Of Broken Promises And The Goldfish Before Nigerians.

Prior to 2015 general elections, Nigerians were inundated with series of mouthwatering promises by the then newly formed opposition party, the All Progressives Congress, APC. They vowed that if given power to preside over the affairs of the nation, they would improve the quality of life for all Nigerians.

Of the over 60 promises they made while chanting "Change" in the most bizarre, spiteful, and propagandistic fierceness, the creation of three million jobs per year was one. They assured that 20 percent of the national budget should be given to the education sector while also making substantial investments in training quality teachers at all levels. Another was building one of the fastest growing and or emerging economies in the world with a real GDP growth averaging 10% per year.

The then major opposition party, whose campaign of abrasive aggressiveness eventually overpowered every message of the then ruling People's Democratic Party, PDP also sugar-coated the people that they would raise the level of life expectancy by an additional ten years on average, as well as making dollar stable at the International market - "We will make one naira equal to one dollar!", the then APC presidential candidate boasted.

Holding them in trust with these promises, Nigerians elected the APC into power in 2015. By the time their first tenure of four years was nearing its end, right in the middle of the game, they had got the goal post of unfulfilled promises and had shifted with different campaign catchwords, "Next Levels." The citizens were once more assured that there would be an improvement if elected the second time.

And Nigerians believed them. As they are today nearing their end to an eight-year reign in power, the life of all Nigerians is not bettered with regard to livelihood. What do we have? A woefully failed government! Their beautiful promises as of today - seven years after mounting the seat of power - are all snoozing off in long pipe dreams.

The unemployment rate rose so highly, like never before. Not even 10 percent of the national budget was allocated for the educational sector; instead, the university lecturers were forced to embark on an indefinite strike that is currently seven months. The Nigerian economy rocked its boat into a recession and now struggling to stay afloat amidst high inflation, high-interest rates, and depleting foreign reserves.

Many Nigerians got depressed, some of which committed suicide, while many others died due to unbearable poverty, excruciating hunger, and poor healthcare delivery. Our national currency, the naira, was not helped. It was left to depreciate from #199 when General Muhammadu Buhari assumed office to #711 per dollar today at the parallel market, despite that the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, pumped billions of dollars into stabilizing the weakened local currency.

Realized that Nigerians had totally lost hope in them and found solace in a man whose administration as state governor transformed all sectors of its economy visually, using a developmental masterplan derived from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, UNSDGs, and repositioned the badly worsened economy, stabilized the hugely neglected insecurity and reduced the reluctantly abandoned unemployment level; the ruling APC has once again deployed the same tactics they used to hoodwink many Nigerians seven years ago.

Instead of employing the strength of what they had achieved within the last seven years to deliver an issue-based campaign toward the February 25th election, they resorted to using all humans of questionable characters to attack, vilify and accuse the presidential candidate of the Labour Party; a party they claimed to have no structure to win elections in the country.

If not that the APC urchins recognized the successful impacts Obi has made so far on the people, why are they hellbent on running him down with all sorts of imaginary propaganda and bitterness? Of recent was their deployment of Festus Keyamo and Femi Fani-Kayode; two of a kind whose motives for doing dirty jobs are the enrichment of their depleted pockets to attack HE Mr. Peter Obi, whose visionary plan as the next president of Nigeria shall give a radical shift in the governance structure of our country.

It is a fact that a society that benefits only a privileged few hardly make any meaningful impact on the life of its people. And knowing very well that the government of HE Peter Obi, the Labour Party Presidential Candidate, when elected in the next year's general elections, shall expand opportunities for the benefit of every citizen and not the benefit of a privileged few like Keyamo, FFK, and their cronies, they resort to spitefully attack him in propagandistic fashion.

They don't want the evil system of dipping hands into the national coffers to feed their depleting pockets of securing their future and the future of their next generation to be stopped; hence, all attempts to deceitfully paint the former Chairman, Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC in an ethnic gab. Dear Nigerians, we must be steadfast not to allow them to crowd us with their attacks because it is our future they are toying with. An attack on Obi-Datti's candidacy is an attack on our brighter future.
