5gnetworks And Covid-19 Spread: Why Conspiracy Linger.

Whereas the conspiracy associated with 5G networks and COVID-19 Spread lingers, experts dispels the theory, says it's mere propaganda.

Although experts say theories associating the spread of the pandemic to 5 G networks are false, the conspiracy continues to spread, blaming radiation from 5G towers for the pandemic spread and other health issues. These have been debunked time and again, but unfortunately, the conspiracy continues to spread. At the announcement of this technological advancement, several theories have emerged since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, believing in alternate versions of its reason.

The theories have taken several forms over the years and are being spread through different mediums. Authorities have repeatedly warned people to beware of such theories.WhatsApp messages spread the tale that the pandemic is a result of the 5G network, and many other stories about the 5G networks are being spread on other social media platforms. A recent online publication in India made headlines with reports linking 5G and Covid-19. In fact, the theory became viral that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had to warn Indians not to believe in such fake messages.

This two-part theory - is one that says the 5G network is responsible for the spread of Covid-19. Another blames the network entirely for the pandemic and says there never was a Coronavirus, but a cover-up for the deployment of 5G network towers has continued to spread. An IT expert, MD Digital Rig Limited, Dipe Adedeji, says, "it's needless to say, both are horribly wrong narratives which stakeholders including the media need to step up their games to provide right information against the spread of this information." He says, "supporters of the first one believe that radiation from 5G towers is helping the novel coronavirus to spread. This modification also claims that 5G networks weaken the human immune system, thus helping the virus spread faster. Those holding this theory even reached several 5G towers in the UK last year.

The other theory states that 5G networks worldwide are causing the pandemic. It points out the countries with 5G deployment - China, Korea, and Italy- as the virus's epicenters. However, this is where it also goes wrong, with the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic taking place in India, where the 5G rollout has not begun yet. The theory sounds convincing to some, as those holding it believe it takes you deep into the structure of the Oxygen molecule, blaming 5G networks for reversing its polarity. It even states that the Covid-19 patients can be "cured" through antibiotic tablets, anti-inflammatory, anticoagulants, or aspirin, as noted by Reuters in a report.

The theory claims that WHO prohibits autopsies of those deceased by Covid-19 and that Russia is the only country in the world to have done so and found out the "truth." While these theories continue to confuse and probably mislead some, as an easy way out of being a victim, experts also encourage that those messages and propaganda be avoided. "such messages with 5G and Covid-19 mentioned together". The theories are not new and first originated during the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic last year. They are not localized as well, as they have been seen in parts of Europe, the US, and even India on online mediums.

Some online presences have been identified publicly. Reports have emerged time and again from user accounts of different nationalities. One such is posted in the public domain. It reads, "5G at 60Ghz resonates with the oxygen molecule and gives oxygen a reverse polarity, making it much less useful to the human body. At high concentrations of 5G usage, you get suffocation of humans at street level. And at lower doses, you get flu-like symptoms which are the exact same symptoms as the flu with this lowered oxygen uptake by the body."

It adds that "all of Asia turned off their 5G" on a particular day and "left on only their 3G and 4G systems to communicate so they know 5G is the real cause of the illnesses." In India, such theories have been spreading through WhatsApp text and audio messages. In one such audio message, a man can be heard stating that testing of 5G networks is the reason why people are dying in states like UP, Maharashtra, and Bihar. The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has cautioned users about the same and urged them not to believe in any such rumors. Those gullible enough still tend to believe in it and forward it as it is. The chain of misinformation continues.

National Institutes of Health, US, published research on spreading such rumors. Through tracking such rumors, the study attempted to gain an insight into "the dynamics of online information dissemination" and the possible ways to stop such spread. Efforts to stop the spread of such theories have also continued and been bolder; for instance, Authorities in the field of telecoms maintain "fact-checked information that debunks these conspiracy theories also circulates needs to continue and aggressively too, .. "in other networks than the original conspiracist content." Experts go on to point out that even removing such content from online platforms and banning such accounts has quite the opposite effect of what is desired. It strengthens the beliefs of conspiracy theorists for whom "such interventions are proof that they are in the process of uncovering deeper secrets."

While the patterns of such misinformation spread have to be analyzed in what seems to be a never-ending attempt, all social media platforms are appointing the currently available options. Twitter started adding a fact-check clause even to the tweets of some social media influencers last year, showing its serious effort in that direction. However, the volume of such rumors surfacing online is not matched by the pace of fact check. It is thus very important to be vigilant on our part. Fact checks every such information we come across online, through public or private mediums, and make sure not to spread any false information on our own. 5G is the next generation of wireless network technology that will fuel innovation and transform the way we live, work, and play. How does 5G work? 5G networks can be built in different ways from multiple bands of wavelength spectrum: low-band, mid-band, and high-band.

High-band millimeter-wave frequencies have greater bandwidth available to carry more data in dense urban areas but require cell sites to be in close proximity and have limited penetration in buildings. Mid-band balances speed and range, providing broader coverage than high-band. And it's less impacted by buildings. Low-band, like our powerful 600MHz spectrum, travels farther than other bands—over hundreds of square miles—and can pass through more obstacles, providing better coverage and a stronger signal both indoors and out.
