Aliyah Part 3

What a father, what a man, what do you call him?? At the time Aliyah was writing her senior school certificate examination, she got pregnant; afraid and naïve, she didn't tell anyone, and she ran out of town after she finished her exams.

It was later discovered that she was with one of her uncles, 's whom she confessed to her state and how afraid she was to go back home. Her stepmother Asabe was doing all she could to keep the house going, but Aaliyah was afraid she would reject her if she discovered she was pregnant. Aliyah was returned home by her uncle to plead with her father, Mr. Garba, and her stepmother, Asabe.

She was forgiven and accepted back; it was discovered that she got pregnant by one of her friend's uncles, who forced himself on her on one of those visits; she followed her friend home; unfortunately, he was nowhere to be found. Somehow the baby got aborted, and she had another opportunity to right her wrongs. The whole situation got worse and even more frustrating for Aliyah as her father (Mr. Garba) was trying to have sex with her with the flimsy excuse that he understood she had feelings and, instead of getting pregnant again, let him help her ease the urge; Aliyah was in a difficult situation, and she was afraid to tell her stepmother, so she reported to an Aunty (younger sister to her step mum) who threatened the father (Mr. Garba) and promised to expose him if he does not allow Aaliyah to be.

It then dawned on the children that Mr. Garba does not have any plan for them, so they started to hustle things out themselves. Each is looking for a job immediately after they finish the Senior school certificate examination. Aliyah got a job at a hotel as a receptionist; that was another traumatic phase as she was asked to start contributing to the welfare and upkeep of the house. He even went as far as telling her boss at her workplace to be paying him her salary. That is when Aliyah then decided to leave the house when things got really uncomfortable for her, and she started to live with a friend. One day the friend told her she was expecting her boyfriend and so she would have to excuse them; it was a difficult phase for her as she didn't know where else to go. Aliyah was just a young girl of eighteen. She started to stay with a friend and sometimes will have to look for a place to spend the night if her friend's boyfriend was coming over. Things continued that way until she closed work at about 10 pm one night, stranded on the street before she decided to locate a friend. She walked that late at night on a lonely dark road, but she eventually located the house. As God will have it, she was allowed to spend the night.

Eventually, she spoke to another colleague at her workplace, who agreed to accommodate her till she could get a place of her own. While all these were going on, her father was busy telling people that Aliyah was prostituting. Aliyah got a place of her own after some months and also accommodated one of her brothers. She couldn't get anything for the house, so she just got a carton which she slept on as she gradually bought things for the house. Things worked out for Aliyah, and she got married. Garba cared less as he still lived his pleasurable lifestyle, and his wife Asabe had to work hard to feed and clothe the children. Yes, Mr. Garba will complain that his wife is adulterous, beats her, and always leave scars on her body; she can't just help seeing her children suffer. She went to every length she could just to ensure that the children were eating and living.

She was ready to take all kinds of debts just to meet the need of her children, yet all she got in return was scars. She later brought back the last child of Laraba from the village to live with them when she discovered that her grandmother was using her to hawk instead of her to be in school or to learn a trade. What else could the grandmother do when Mr. Garba himself does not seem to care about the education of his daughter? Mr. Garba's first son worked on a building site to enable him to raise money to retake his WAEC to enable to get back to school. Asabe, his wife, couldn't tolerate the pain and torture she was going through, so she left the house; he got so angry and sent her a divorce letter. The children wanted to go with her, but he refused. He brought in another woman as his new wife, a widow with two children from her previous marriage whose name was Binta. Binta was just paid her husband's gratuity, and so she lived and cared for him. Things eventually got worse when they both finished the money, and then the trouble began because it was obvious he couldn't fend for them. His other children eventually left to stay with their mother (Asabe), while some moved to live with Aliyah, their elder sister, with her husband.
