An Insight Into The Consequences Of Social Stratification On The Educational System Of Lower-class Citizens

Dreaming of an egalitarian society, the widest impossibility fantasy of man. Social stratification is the only strata in categorizing a nation.

Social stratification has allocated the society into three subclasses; the upper, middle, and lower classes. No doubt, numerous nations found themselves in the middle and lower classes, especially where there is poor circulation of funds, corruption, and poverty (Nigeria as a case study). As long as this stratum is considered in a community, preferences will be given to people, and this will affect others who are not in the class.

One of the major dissatisfaction with this is that it breeds frustration, oppression, discrimination, inequality, crises, corruption, and many more. Its influence on the educational system is a long-lasting dilemma. Most likely, people who found themselves in the lowest stratum find it extremely difficult to climb the ladder, which leads to the upper class. That is, upward mobility may never be possible since education is considered the crucial determinate of social status and meant to be the act of generating upward mobility. Thus, the primary problem of the lower class.

As mentioned above, education is a major norm in determining social status; the more educated people are, the more they are likely to get good jobs that recoup them a good income. Reacting to research, This problem seems to exist even in the advanced countries; it is found that students belonging to the lower stratum drop out of school in a larger number. Although education and additional incentive are given, this does not seems to solve much.

The quality and standards of education available for the above mentioned are considered poor, inadequate, and outdated, ranging from poor infrastructure to lack of specialized bodies, exposure, and supervision; this affects the quality of education given to these students since low input is put into this aspect, the low output is expected. Policymakers often ignore the hardship the lower class face, which leads to them creating little or no solution to the situation.

Conclusively, the outcome of this resulted in zero or low record in upward mobility; this tends to keep the student in a closed system.
