Another Opportunity At Life

Another Opportunity at Life: "Luck is when opportunity meets preparation"...

I've heard people saying success is luck and not hardworking because there are a lot of unsuccessful hardworking people out there. The bitter truth is that "luck is when opportunity meets preparation." Opportunity will always appear and disappears when not met with preparation. There's a common saying that "opportunity comes but once," which means that if you refuse to seize an opportunity at the right time, you may not see such opportunity again. Just like a wonderful dream won't come to reality if the dreamer refuses to wake up and take a step to bring the dream to manifestation.

I've lost a series of opportunities in life because I was not prepared for them; that is why I always advise inordinately desirous people not to rush to the future so that they won't leave the key to unlock the future behind. Truly, I lost many opportunities, but there was a trackable one I seized that changed my life to date. Growing up as an ambitious lady that lacked direction, it was difficult for me to engage in a certain thing; I would be here today and there tomorrow, passionately. The day I discovered one of my talents, I grabbed the opportunity that came with it.

I was in Junior Secondary School 2 when this remarkable event happened. This day, our Civic Education teacher pointed at me to come and read an article before the class. I stood up and read it confidently, spicing it with my adorable gestures. The teacher, Mr. Yusuf Abdulwasiu (popularly known as Double Star in my school), marveled; he said, "you read like a perfect newscaster; you will surely make a good one." I didn't understand what he meant; I was chorusing it in my mind "newscaster" for me to remember after the class.

The next Monday morning, before assembly period, he invited me to his office and gave me a piece of paper to read. I read it perfectly. He said, "you're going to read it on assembly ground today." I was shocked! The fear of how to face the number of students baffled me; my school was a public school and the most populated secondary school in my town. I finally read it without shivering before teachers and students. Everybody was wowed!

After some months, he stopped compiling news for me; I would go out, get information among students, put them together, and submit it to him for editing. Along the line, I gained the courage and knowledge to write news by myself, edit it and read it on the assembly ground. Through my teacher's struggle coupled with mine, we initiated Press Club for students who also have an interest in reading news; by this default, we sprung up talents in others as well. Then, I planned to study mass communication at the university but was disrupted due to some circumstances. Now, I've extended my writing to other forms of writing. I'm not yet an exceptional writer, but I'm working towards it; I make sure any opportunity to learn the art of writing and to showcase my talent does not elude me.

In essence, prepare now for coming opportunities, don't overrate yourself more than things coming your way; they may be needed in the future. For instance, the key to unlocking a door is not as big as the door. So, your dreams are bigger; your expectations even are unimaginable; that's why you keep refusing little things coming your way; stop it! That little thing may be the key to unlocking your future door. Every day is another opportunity in life; seize it positively.
