Broken But Saved

She stared into space, the realization of everything was just beginning to settle in.

"You've been diagnosed with HIV," the doctor's words came back to her. The doctor had told her that she was not in danger since the virus had not yet turned to AIDS, but that did not provide any solace to her at all. " If only I had listened to my parents when they warned me. If only I paid attention to Chioma. She warned me about this, but I didn't listen. I thought I was having all the fun in the world. I thought I was living the life. I thought I was careful enough not to go on without protection.

Look at me now", Bisola thought as she wept bitterly. HIV to her was more like a death sentence. She gathered herself a little and managed back to campus. Chioma and Bidemi rushed to her when they saw her coming back. "Bisola, what is the matter?" they asked. But Bisola wept all the more. When she was calm, she narrated to them why she was that devastated. They felt pity for her. "This is not the end of the road, Bisola. You still have a lot of life ahead of you. HIV is not a death sentence. I know this because I'm a medical student. Listen to the doctor, take treatments for it. You'd be alright.

If you don't mind, I will take you to our chaplaincy priest tomorrow, he'd pray for you, and you also must be ready to commit yourself to God. Life is beyond all the things you see as fun now. There is life after this life, and how sad it would be to miss out on that afterlife. Make the decision to be for Christ and him alone. Renounce the world and all its lustful passion. There's no better place to be other than God's presence, especially now". Bisola wept all the more. She had lived too carelessly. She said, " Can God still love a person like me?". "Absolutely," replied Chioma, " In fact, the bible tells us that there is joy in heaven over the repentance of a sinner. I can pray with you now; then tomorrow, the priest would pray for you and give you the rest of life's instruction". Bisola agreed, and Chioma prayed with her.

"Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I'm a sinner. Today, I accept you as my only Lord and Saviour. I renounce sin, and I receive grace to live for you. I go forward with you ever, and backward never. Thank you, father, for helping me; I pray through Christ, our Lord. Amen". Bisola's heart was suddenly encompassed by peace. She stopped crying and thanked her friends for their encouragement and moral support.

Bisola got married to a handsome and well-to-do man. They are blessed with two kids already, and God has been faithful to them over the past years. The last test she did showed that she was now HIV negative. God has been glorified. (Fiction). Dear you, it is never too late to start living the right way. Scriptures would tell us, " Hate what is bad and hold fast to that which is good" (Romans 12:9). Decide today to live for God.
