Can You Fight Change?

The world will keep changing. You can't stop it. What you can do is try to not get left behind!

Oya answer the question in your mind. Can you fight change? Change is universal. It is something that every human being experiences. The "you" of 2015 is not the same person reading this piece of writing in 2022. Change comes in different forms. It can be physical, mental, financial, and so on. There was a time when you were not as tall as you are now. You haven't always known the things you know now. You haven't always had the amount of money you currently have. You have had times that you were healthy and times that you were sick. And that is the thing about change. It may not always be positive. There are times when negative changes surfaces.

Change is an inevitable part of human existence, therefore, you must brace yourself. You must keep up with the happenings around you. You must be aware of new trends. The traditional trend of going to school, graduating, going for Youth Service, get a 9-5 job just does not cut it anymore. Times have changed. Yes, this is the recent change that Nigerian youths are faced with. Aside from the sorry state of the education system, there are not enough jobs to reach the thousands of youths that keep spilling into the labor market every year.

The issue of unemployment is turning into a global issue. Many countries are facing this challenge so if you plan to migrate, there's still no guarantee that you will get a good 9-5 job. Even if you can land a well-paying 9-5 job, there's still a possibility of being laid off. What about retirement after years of slaving away? Now, I'm not trying to put fear in you or make you feel anxious about anything. I'm simply telling you as it is. I wish I had known this earlier. So, the times are changing daily. There's nothing you and I can do to stop it. All we can do is keep ourselves abreast of how we can scale through in the midst of the change.

The kind of change we are experiencing is astronomical. Another comes before we can recover from the former. New skills are coming out and while people are trying to get a hang of them, other new skill sets surface. The way we know technology is changing. The way we use social media is changing. The way we spend is changing. The way we invest is changing. New methods of saving are being introduced. In essence, it's a fast-paced changing world. It has always been so and it will remain so as long as human beings continue to exist. Still, there will always be some who will attempt to fight change. When cars were introduced, not everyone was on board.

When AI (Artificial Intelligence) started creeping in, not everyone was pleased. It's like I said earlier. Change may be good or bad. It kinda depends on how you receive it. Someone said, "In every crisis, there's an opportunity." The same goes for change. Since you can't stop change, you have to learn, keep learning, unlearn, relearn and repeat. It's a cycle! Nobody will wait for you. Nobody will say, "Emeka has not adjusted to the last change. Let's wait for him." It won't happen! What you can do is keep yourself abreast of the changes happening around you, in technology, business, marketing, education, advertising, etc.

If you keep holding on to the way things were done in the past you'll be left behind. You may not be happy with some of these changes, but that will not stop them from happening. Open your eyes to new trends and the opportunities they offer and properly maximize them. Don't sit back and fume about how unfair it all is. Put yourself out there and learn! Things will not always remain the same. It will not always be business as usual. You cannot fight change even if you try!
