Garments identical in style and material may appear different depending on the wearer's body shape or whether the garment has been washed, folded, melded, or is new. HISTORY AND EVOLUTION OF FASHION.

Fashion history is the history of people. People have loved clothing Fashion for thousands of years. From the early days of Egypt to the day, clothes have become an expression of who we are. Throughout history, drawings, documents, and other archaeological finds have also revealed fashions worn by people in various ancient civilizations. The world of fashion is always evolving. From the 1920s to the 1990s, fashion just not change in clothing but also in accessories, footwear and hairstyle. The trend of wearing hats, carrying purses, shoes, and men putting on long ties and bows has been continuously changing with periods, occasions, and culture. Hairstyles also have been changing throughout time.

In Nigeria, from the 1960s till the early 90s, Nigeria was very much influenced by European fashion and, more specifically, British fashion since the British colonized us. However, since the 90s, the Nigerian fashion industry has experienced tremendous growth and has made/is making a major impact in the fashion world.

WHY IS FASHION IMPORTANT?

Fashion is important because it reflects the culture of a country. It makes our lives colorful and changes our lives with time. In a way, it also adds variety to life, providing an opportunity to try out something new. Fashion is not only limited to clothing or makeup, but a much broader includes accessories like shoes, perfume, hairstyle, mannerisms, etiquette, and attitudes towards life. Fashion is not restricted to self-expression only but also a means of self-empowerment and confidence. It encompasses the total spectrum of human activity, which relates to a specific period. It is an outlook on life.

FASHION INDUSTRY AND MEDIA

As fashion evolved, the industry was formulated to manage the process for the customers. The fashion world has given shape to a new industry, the 'Fashion industry.' The industry was created to design, manufacture, and market clothes, footwear, and accessories. Before creating the apparel industry, people made clothes for themselves. The mass production of clothing began in the mid-nineties when some creators began to make garments that did not require any fitting session with the tailors. The fashion industry, in its true sense, was established in the twentieth century when the neighborhood tailors decided to become the manufacturing business.

IMPACT OF FASHION ON THE YOUTH

The positive side of fashion is it enhances your life. It not only allows you to dress fashionably but also allows being independent in thinking and maintaining self-esteem. At the same time, fashion is negatively impacting the youth; it has taken up the life of the youth so much that they are highly obsessed with what they wear. The fashion trend has become a cult with today's generation; they blindly try to imitate the models and celebrities without understanding the true sense of fashion.

In conclusion, the need for fashion is, therefore, to strike a balance between fashionable and wearing what suits you. The young generation needs to understand that fashion in the true sense is the attitude that you carry and not just fashionable clothes and accessories.
