Gods In Men : God Of War (chapter One)

A young boy that has the ability ÒGÚN (the god of iron)...Fifteen hours ago, my life suddenly changed. I was forced to become something incredible impossible to the human world, something unexpected.

When I was four and a half years old, my dad died right in front of me, turning into arches, until his body became something my mum and I couldn't touch. My mum made me believe we humans die that way, but I grew much older to understand that my dad's death was not something ordinary. My mum and I relocated down to Lagos a few weeks after my dad's funeral. She tried all possible ways to make me forget about my dad, but she failed. She showed and gave me the fullest love in her, but something keeps making me remember him.

Hmm, when I was growing up, my mum used to tell me stories about a particular Yorùbá legend called ÒGÚN ( the god of iron). The funniest thing is that she tells me this particular past legend stories when I am about to sleep at night; why? A few years ago, I started asking myself why is she always telling me stories about this old myth legend, but Fifteen hours ago, I got an answer to that question. My mum Mrs. Ogunremi Adeola was preparing me for something huge that she herself didn't know how it would happen. Fifteen hours of unconsciousness changed my life; it made me know more about my parents. It made me see things beyond this world, or should I say, spiritual things.

I got to understand that those stories were all about my dad, a god in man. And I fully understood why I couldn't let him out of my head; I was born so that something huge in him could be reborn in me. My dad, my hero, Everyone's hero, was not just a man but a god. My dad was popularly known as the "mystery man" in the 90s, a god who safe countless of life and was also well accepted by people. But when he died, the witches, wizards, and sorcerers took over the western region, ruling it on their own terms and conditions.

My mum is not a witch, but a charmed one, life unusually unaffected by dangers and difficulties. However, she practices a lot of sorcery which empowers her to some certain level of spirituality. When we relocated down to Lagos, she started going out at night, coming back home with bone fractures, cuts on the skin, and a lot of injuries. I found out Fifteen hours ago that my mum is the superhorse popularly known as the unknown.

Have been living my entire life with my mum without knowing she is the one called the unknown, a horse that my friends and I spend a lot of time discussing and arguing all about. I never in my life imagined living under the same roof with my favorite superhero. There are a lot of terrible things that have been sorted out by the gods, a monster that does not care about human life, a being that can't be defeated by Witches, wizards, or sorcerers. Within the Fifteen hours, I was told by the powerful beings up there that those monsters were false gods. I know you may have heard about some powerful gods like SÀNGÓ(god of thunder), OYA( the goddesses of weather), ÒGÚN(god of iron or metal), OSHUN(the river goddess), OSANYIN(the god of herbs and small plants), ÈSÙ(the devil itself), AGUNJU (the god of fire), OBA(the Violet warrior) and a lot more. This god played a big part on earth; they died fighting these monsters called the false gods; they died so that we can all live in peace.

I was able to know all spiritual things within these fifteen hours, things that can take fifteen to twenty years for an ordinary human to know. The funniest aspect is that none of these gods finished their assignment on earth before they vanished, but expect ÈSÙ( the devil itself), also known as the trickster. So, some of these Orishas(gods) gave up their power to humans to complete their assignment for them, making them gODs IN MEN.

ÒGÚN is also known as the god of war. He has the ability to summon warriors from above when necessary. My mum used to tell me that he also has the ability to control and work through metals. I thought it was just a myth, but it's real. ÒGÚN is part of the gods that gave up their powers to a human. His power has been passed down from generation to generation in my family. I got to know that my mum made us relocate a few weeks after the death of my dad because she was scared that am too young to be the next ÒGÚN(god of war). Why should a four-and-a-half kid be a god, she said. I seriously respect the decision she made. Introducing me to things like this will seriously mass up my life, so she had to move out of the State before the spiritual ritual began.

My mum used to tell me we were going to relocate back to Ogun state when the time came. I always pray for this day to pass me by because relocating will create a large distance between friends and me, but it has happened; I seriously missed them all. I now have a new friend called Demilola; she is caring and friendly. I seriously love the way she and her mum treated me when I was at the hospital. Her smile was lovely; she is indeed beautiful, and she is the only thing I find interesting here.

TWENTY-THREE HOURS AGO. 12:06 am. David was in his home secretly watching TV when he heard unusual sudden noise from the kitchen. The noise was created by some fallen, broken plates, which caused a shock to him. He had no choice but to check what was wrong. On getting there, he was so shocked by what he saw; his mum was covered with blood all over her body. He couldn't do anything, looking so confused.

Mrs. OGUNREMI/ADEOLA: Get me the first aid box in my room.

DAVID: What happened to your mum?

ADEOLA: Stop asking questions. *David ran to his mum's room, but on getting there, the door was locked.*

DAVID: Mum, the door is locked. (At the top of his voice.)

ADEOLA: God. Start parking your loads; we are leaving by sunshine. *He was still at the door entrance, looking worried.*

DAVID: Why? And to Where?

ADEOLA: I am your mother, do what I asked. *Adeola said some few incantations which caused her inner spirit to get separated from her body, giving her the strength to teleport to her room*.
