Hero

This article is written about who really is a hero and what is expected of a hero...

A "HERO" is a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability. A person who is admired for great achievement and noble qualities, someone who is willing to sacrifice and forfeit something of great value for the sake of others. A hero can be either male or female, but for the purpose of convenience, a female hero is called a 'heroine.' It is enough for someone to become a hero as much as a great one. " What is worth doing is worth doing well." Some examples of great heroes we have in Nigeria are General Yakubu Dan-Yumma Gowon, Sir. Ahmadu Ibrahim Bello, Mrs.Funmilayo Ransom Kuti, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sir.Abubakar Tafawa Balewa etc.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A GREAT HERO.

• Bravery and Endurance

• Conviction

• Courage

• Determination

• Honesty

• charismatic

• Moral integrity

• Charitable

• Prayerful

In my Lenten days, almost forty days now, following the readings meditatively, I've found out that there are many heroes, but I chose Judas Iscariot, Peter, and the donkey Jesus used in entering Jerusalem as my heroes and, of course, these three creatures did heroic work in the Bible as in the Gospel of Matthew. In Matthew 26:74-75, Peter, after denying Jesus three times, went outside and wept bitterly and remorsefully for betraying Jesus. Matthew 27:3-5 When Judas Iscariot came to the realization that what he did was wrong, he remorsefully complained bitterly up to the extent that he went and hung himself. In the Gospel of Matthew 21:7, Jesus Christ sent his disciples, and they went and brought the donkey to him, and he used it to enter Jerusalem. In the olden days, it was said that whenever a warrior approached a city with a horse, it signified that war was coming, but if he came with a donkey, it signified that he was coming in peace. So Jesus using the donkey signifies that he took a message of peace to Jerusalem.

We do things that are more than denying Jesus Christ or betraying him, but the question is, do we show remorse when we realize that we are wrong?
