Horror

As our car sped down the road, we all prayed for nothing but safety...It was during the easter break we were all asked to return home for a three-day break. I had planned to spend the three days in school, but when everyone was leaving, I was pressured to travel too. I bid farewell to my friends and roommates.

Only one of my friends, Jane, was traveling to the same area as me. We boarded a cab which took us to the park. I had carried with me a tote bag because it wasn't going to be a long holiday. Jane had carried a traveling box because, according to her, she wanted to drop some clothes at home since we were already in our final year. At the park, we waited for two hours before we got a bus heading to our destination. The park was extremely crowded compared to the other times I traveled."Well, it might be because of the festive period," I had told Jane when she complained about the crowd.

By the time our bus left the park, it was 2:30 pm; I wasn't really bothered because the journey was only two hours, and I was sure we would be home before 6 pm. We had only traveled for about a few minutes when one of the tyres went flat. The driver had to park by the roadside while he sought help from other drivers. He had first called a mechanic, but the mechanic was yet to arrive.

At first, we were all patient with him, but when nothing had been done after an hour, we began to complain. Some passengers went as far as shouting at him. The driver kept on assuring us that help was on the way, but nobody bought his words this time around. After all, we would have gone half of the journey if not for the flat tire. The driver finally said that he wanted to go back and get a mechanic from the park. We agreed on the condition that he had to leave his car keys with us. This disagreement lasted for a few minutes before everyone finally agreed for him to go and return. It was almost 5 pm, and the driver was yet to return. We became angry once again, and some passengers cursed the driver.

By the time this driver got back, it was already a few minutes past 6 pm. He came back with a mechanic. Two passengers wanted to beat him but were held back by other passengers. When asked why he was late, he replied that it was hard to get a mechanic to follow him. Nobody believed him, but for us to get moving, they all left him. When the tyre was finally pumped, and the mechanic settled, we continued our journey. It was already 7:05 pm. I was already tired, and Jane kept complaining. Her parents were already calling her to ask why she hadn't arrived. I knew no one would call me because I had told them that I wouldn't be returning home.

All of a sudden, the driver started slowing down. When we asked for the reason, he said that there were armed robbers at the front. We urged him to reverse quickly, but it was already too late. The robbers had sighted our vehicle and started driving towards us. But the driver still tried his luck in reversing the vehicle; he was yet to make a full reverse when the back window was shot.

People screamed and scrambled to lie down on the floor. The gunshot didn't stop the driver from continuing the reverse. He finally reversed and sped down the road. The robbers kept on shooting the vehicle, but the driver continued and never stopped. It seemed that wasn't his first time experiencing armed robbers. The gunshots stopped when we entered a busy street. That was when the driver stopped the vehicle and got down to check the damages.

Unfortunately, the first gunshot touched a lady who sat on the last seat. She was bleeding profusely from her shoulder. Some passengers got down and helped her into another vehicle which drove them to the hospital. The driver had gone with them, so we had to wait for them to return; moreover, we were still scared by the incident. The streets started getting calm as people were already closing their shops, but the driver and the passengers were yet to return.

To be continued...
