The Organ Called Kidney: Our world is becoming so sophisticated that it's becoming almost impossible for the layman to understand what's going on around him, both the visible and invisible, known and unknown. But, thanks to education and invariably science and technology, their contribution to the demystification of our ultra-sophisticated world cannot be over-emphasized and will forever be appreciated, especially in the aspect of medical science and improvement of the health sector and the general standard of living.

The human body, though fragile, is also a very powerful and highly sophisticated machine full of complicated connections and wirings that causes awe to any imagination that attempts to comprehend the mysteries behind the working mechanism of the human body.

The human is made of several interconnected veins, arteries, cells, tissues, organs even bones which come together in a very structured and organized patterns and framework to make up the human body system which has been a great subject matter and is still being subjected to several scientific and medical experiments and tests and the results from time to time is a source of many amazing and profound shocking discoveries. The human kidney is one of the fragile but important organs in the body, whose contribution to the continuation of life is amazing, and the working mechanism of the kidney is incredible.

The human kidney is an organ in the human body with a bean-like shape and the size of the human fist, located below the ribcage on either side of the spine and is responsible for maintaining balance by filtering waste and eliminating the waste in the form of urine.

Functions of a kidney:

  • maintaining overall fluid balance in the body
  • regulating and filtering minerals from the blood
  • filtering waste materials from food, medication, and toxic substances
  • creating hormones that help in producing red blood cells, promote bone health, and regulate blood pressure

But as a result of various circumstances, various ailments have been related to the kidney, ailments like:

  • Adult polycystic kidney disease
  • Nephrotic syndromes in adults
  • Haematuria
  • Fabry diseases
  • Interstitial nephritis

to mention but a few

And they are caused by a variety of situations:

  • genetic problems
  • Injuries
  • Medicine(hard drugs, smoking, and alcoholic contents)

Though kidney diseases might be many, below are a few tips to keep your kidney healthy.

  • Regular exercises
  • watch your blood sugar
  • Monitor blood pressure
  • Monitor your weight
  • Eat well and good
  • Drink plenty fluid
  • Stay away from hard drugs, smoking, and alcoholic contents
