Married For Five Days (part 2: Kayla's Wants...)
The couple discover their differences and preferences in their choices quite late.
As the Wedding Day approached, things began to steer up in the relationship. Harry wanted a simple wedding, while Kayla felt it would be a shame to have a simple wedding. She got so overwhelmed with planning her day and invited a lot of people. Harry complained about most of the things Kayla presented to him on her To-do list. He wondered why they had to hire a Wedding gown for as much as Seventy Thousand Naira (N70 000) and another Bridal Shower gown for Thirty Thousand Naira (N30, 000)! "Come on, Baby, N100 000.00 to hire two gowns that will be worn and returned? How much will it cost to have someone make these dresses for you?"
"Listen, Babe; I don't have that time and patience to have someone make my wedding gown when I could just walk into any Bridal Shop and get something Classy to use and return. Moreover, people budget more than that for this stuff; I am only being considerate." Kayla said. "Wow! You call this ridiculous list 'considerate'?" Harry queried, shaking the piece of paper in the air with anger beginning to set in. "I don't care what you think of the list. But I won't have anything short of those things I have penned down," Kayla shot back.
Harry stormed out of the house, leaving Kayla all by herself. She was angry too. Why was Harry bent on making a caricature of her on a day such as their wedding? It was only last month when her best friend had a talk-of-the-town wedding. And she was also going to make sure hers was talked about, too; after all, she was of a better social status than her best friend. Kayla picked up her phone and dialed a number; a voice came alive on the other side; "Hello" "Yes, hello. I am calling to enquire about your services," she said nicely. "Oh, that's nice. So what can we do for you?" The voice on the other side asked. "I need a total makeup package for my forthcoming wedding," Kayla spoke into the mouthpiece. "That will cost you just Thirty-five Thousand Naira" "Okay, is that not too much?" She queried.
"No, Ma'am. Your facials alone will cost 20k, fixing and painting your nails will cost 10k, and the remaining 5k is for outdoor services. Except you wanna come down to our studios, then we can leave that out." The voice explained. "Alright, no problem, provided I am going to get the best of services. It's my big day, you know?" Kayla concluded. "I know, Madam. You don't have a problem." The voice assured. "Okay, thank you. I will get back to you." Kayla promised. "Okay, bye." The Call ended. Two weeks on and the wedding plan continued with Harry scouting for cash and Kayla thinking of ways to look best on her day. Harry wanted just four of his friends to be in suits of their choices with no particular color in mind, while Kayla wanted ten of her friends to be on the bridal train. Each of her friends was to pay Ten Thousand Naira (N10, 000) for the material to be sewn. Nothing Harry said made her change her mind, so he gave up and decided to carry on with his plans quietly.
As the day drew closer, Harry had paid for most of the necessary things like the hall for the reception, the drinks, decoration, cameraman, MC, Photographer, and some other stuff. By the time he had cleared most of the items on the list he had prepared, he had just a balance of over a Hundred Thousand Naira left, and most of Kayla's needs were still unmet. Harry knew he had to devise a means to convince Kayla to cut down some of these exorbitant needs. He had to think fast because the wedding was now four days away.
