My Message To The Nigerian Students.

The fate of the Nigerian students, as the fighting between the Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities seems not to be ending anytime soon due to the insensitivity of the FG towards the demands of the striking lecturers.

It is no longer news that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been on strike for more than five-month low, and the strike does not seem to end anytime soon. The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has recently embarked on strike. The same thing with the College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) has been on strike for quite some months. What message is this sending to us? It shows the level of insensitivity by the government towards education in the country. All the tertiary institutions in the country are grounded now, and the government seems not to care. While the Nigerian students are away from school, children of those elected into offices are graduating from schools oversea.

This shows the reason the government is insensitive towards education in the country. They are deliberately making the schools close for a while, and in the meantime, their children graduate from schools abroad. They are equipping their children with knowledge and skills to bequeath the country's leadership to them. It is the strategy to deprive the children of a poor education so they will lack the requisite knowledge to challenge their Children. This seems to play out well because most of us studying in Nigerian schools do not know the purpose of acquiring knowledge. We think that knowledge has to do only with making money; therefore, we do not take it seriously. This is an issue for another day!

Just recently, President Muhammadu Buhari said, none of his children should be expecting his inheritance, that he has no inheritance for them to bequeath. He added this phrase that caught my attention "I have given them education and skills." The statement needs sober reflection. This education and skills that he gave his children, why is he so sure that it will make them excel in life without leaving any inheritance for them? This shows that we have been deceived for so long that education is not a road to success. The governments at all levels are making us see education as something that is not necessary, and their tricks seem to be working, thanks to the industrial action embarked upon by tertiary institution workers. They are telling us to forsake education while their children acquire it abroad.

The more reason is that they will never show seriousness in solving the problems bedeviling the tertiary institutions in the country. After all, their children are not studying there. That is why the grievances of school workers can never be resolved! The demands of school workers are not taken seriously because their industrial action does not stop their children from graduating abroad. It still helps them to keep the children of the poor masses that will later be an obstacle to their children's ascension to power in the future at home. The more reason ASUU and other tertiary institution unions need to tamper justice with mercy and resume work.

A few days ago, Nyesom Wike, the River state governor's son, and Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, the Jigawa state governor's son, graduated from universities in the UK. The duo is serving governors in their various states. They cannot send their children to schools in their states because they do not want to delay their children's future. They know very well that they are not funding and giving the institutions in their various states the required amount that will ensure the smooth running of the schools, which will not make them embark on strike. This is the bitter truth in each state of the federation and the federal capital territory. The Governors and the President do not trust the education system in the country, that is why they cannot allow their children to study in any of the institutions in the country!

We should not allow anyone to use us to satisfy their political ambition because we will be the ones to suffer from their misrule. There is nothing like national interest to Nigerian politicians but individual interest. The time to wise up is now; we should not allow any politician to use us as a tool to satisfy their greediness!
