Peter Obi At 61: Understanding The True Testament Of His Sustainable Development Vision

In every generation of human endeavour is born a leader who should grow up, study human development trajectories and make an informed decision thereafter to enter into politics of development. And such kind of a leader comes once in their generation.

To confirm that such a human leader is the right one who would emancipate the people from agonizing misery and unbearable sufferings, he is critically tested through the prisms of governance and societal development. Our generation has never had it so good with developmental leadership since our dear country, Nigeria, gained independence. We have had leaders who have tried their best to protect our national development, and at the same time, we have experienced those who have tried to wreck our national development into a retrogressive path.

The sufferings and hardships we are experiencing in Nigeria today are a result of inexperienced and visionless leadership. And we made such bad choices believing that the expected leadership could sincerely change the ailing system of our national economy for the overall good and well-being of our fellow countrymen, women, and children. We were, at the same time, waiting for a very ripe time to find the suitable human who shall come forward to challenge the status quo of our development index by being in the electoral ballot register/paper.

We waited for so long before figuring out the thoroughly confirmed transformational leader who would rescue us from the malaise of the consumptive economy and properly place us into the most desirable productive economy. We waited for time too long, but it is not the long-term waiting that matters; rather, how well the time is worth the wait. We waited to confirm verifiably if he is the right one fit to lead our sinking nation out of the deep ocean of degenerative economic development into the fertile land of generative food security for the well-being of all of us.

Today, our joys seem not to know no bounds as a whole lot of our people, dear well-meaning Nigerians, have found solace in the man who came far ahead of his generation. That man is HE, Mr. Peter Obi. He is not just a Peter in the name; he is 'The Rock' of sustainable development for the overall well-being of the people. And his sustainable development practices in real practical terms were tested, witnessed, experienced, and confirmed when he governed a hitherto underdeveloped state for straight good eight years.

As the governor of Anambra State between 2006 to 2014, Peter Gregory Obi, who was born on 19th July 1961, demonstrated to the astonishment of the people of Anambra State and the world at large the very true meaning of effective leadership. The visionary humane leader who was born a year after Nigeria became an independent nation proved to the world, the United Nations in particular, the true meaning of sustainable development as enshrined in the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs plan by saving financial resources running into billions of both local and foreign currency denominations for the future of his dear home state. HE Peter Obi proved to the good lovers of transformative societal development the onus that he is sincerely and honestly a change maker.

The developmental affairs of our dear country for years now have been yearning for an effective leader who also doubles as a change-maker for improved sustainable development for the general good of all of its citizenry. And in the man fondly called Okwute, the citizens of Nigeria have found such a leader and leadership. Little wonder every nook and cranny of the country, Nigeria - across tribes and religions - has been vibrating in revolutionary movements since he emerged as a presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections. And as if that is not enough, the whole of our citizenry is celebrating the Labour Party presidential candidate today as he clocked yet another year of enviable excellence for humanity. The revolutionary movements and today's celebration of his birthday are a true testament to the fact that the two-term former governor of Anambra State is a confirmed presidential material aptly suitable for taking creative actions toward solving our malaise of social problems.

Yes, the celebration of his birthday across the nation today is a true testament that Peter Obi's effective leadership translates to real and prudent public policy formulation and implementation, as well as good public service delivery, all aimed at meeting the needs and aspirations of dear citizens of Nigeria. The national celebration of the man who transformed the educational ranking of Anambra State from 26th position to first position throughout his remaining last three years as governor is a true testament that his sustainable development drive means the insurance of our future generations on the path of progress and evolution.

It further proves the real fact that his sustainable development plan provides an approach to making better decisions on the issues that affect all our lives. To this man of phenomenal leadership, I join all well-meaning fellow countrymen, women, and children to wish him a protected long life, secured good health, and prudent management of our collective wealth.

Happy Birthday, Your Excellency!
