Screen Your Conveniences

Are you always occupied with work and pleasure? What are the frequent activities that take your time? Is God on your list or you are hustling and bustling?

Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in your body as you are strong in spirit. (3 John 1:2 NLT) Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. (3 John 1:2 KJV). Most times, when people talk about prosperity, they focus on and pursue one aspect: MONEY. And that's where we all get it wrong. There was a time I also believed that once I had money, everything else was solved; I thought money was my only problem but thanked God for knowledge. The scripture above blessed me and changed my perception of prosperity.

As much as God wants us to prosper financially, the prosperity of our spirit and soul is much more important to him than money or fame. Is it God's desire for me to have money? Absolutely! Money should not be among those things a believer should struggle for, not at all. The Bible said Jesus Christ was made poor. Why? So that we can be rich! (2 Cor 8:9). So what am I saying in essence?

You see, there is an order of importance in the kingdom of God. God sees to it that he trains his children and equips them with his word and the right kind of knowledge; God tests and vets his children before he goes ahead to entrust wealth in their care, but unfortunately, many believers are too impatient to pass through the process, but they want the results. Things don't work that way, beloved.

1. The first prosperity you need is the prosperity of your SPIRIT; That is the regeneration of your spirit. Believing in Jesus Christ as the son of God and confessing with your mouth that he is your Lord. God said silver and gold belong to him, right? In those days, the higher your silver and gold, the higher your financial position. That was what made Solomon the richest of all; the Bible recorded that silver was worthless in his days! Everything in his palace and the Temple were made of pure gold, down to his cup! (see 1 Kings 10). So, anyone that wants true riches has to connect with the God that owns them, and there's just one way to the father, Jesus is his name. ( John 14:6).

2. The prosperity of your soul; you know the soul consists of the mind, the will, and our emotions. You see, while the salvation of your spirit happens instantly ( Rom 10:9&10, 2 Cor 5:12). Take a look;

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! (2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT).

If we are to meditate on this scripture, does it mean when I give my life to Christ, my name changes from Precious to Bethel? No! Or does it mean my skin color will change? Or did my nationality changes? No!. That change refers to our spirit. It becomes new, and that is the real you.

Now for our soul to prosper, it has to be constantly renewed. The soul has to be transformed, and that happens gradually and progressively. Our mind, will, and emotion needs to be enlightened from time to time. Our perspective about life, money, how we relate to people and circumstances, our thinking, and all the rest. They must be changed to be in sync with God and his word. This is where you know that money is not an achievement but a trust; yes, God entrusts his children with wealth for three basic reasons; to live a comfortable life, to be a blessing to others, and to propagate his kingdom here on earth. Gradually you'll see yourself thinking like God, only good thoughts! And this learning doesn't stop; we keep beholding and changing till we transit to eternity. ( See Rom 12; 2. NLT);

Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. ( Also see James 1:21, Josh 1:8).

3. The prosperity of your body; the body is the carrier of the soul and spirit; your spirit cannot work alone; it needs your body; in fact, it needs your healthy body. God is a Spirit; he can't be seen, so the only way he can be seen is by working through us and dominating through us, so you see how important your body is. Now there's a place for healing, and there's a place for health; if you ask me, I prefer to be in health rather than getting healed from sickness. God made provision for us to be in good health, and should we fall sick, there's also provision for our healing. God also wants us to take care of our bodies. (3 John 1:2, Ex. 15: 26, 1 Peter 2:24).

4. Financial prosperity; this is the one we clamor for! That's not wrong at all. God doesn't want us to live in hardship because we are serving him. He wants us to serve him in abundance. What God doesn't want is for us to seek wealth above him; he doesn't want us to make money our idol, and he doesn't want us to lose our souls because of money. That is why this order has to be followed. The truth is that if we don't genuinely love God, if we are not well groomed, it is possible for us to lose our salvation. We might not see any need to serve God because that is why most people are serving him. You see, there are biblical and natural principles to financial wealth or prosperity, and that is what you learn when you transform your mind through God's word and good books of people who are successful. You learn what they did and do it too.

Another thing is this, sometimes the mass of wealth you desire might not be what you are enjoying now. There's just one reason for that; your capacity cannot bear that amount of wealth. So you increase your capacity through spiritual exercise and mental transformation (knowledge); eventually, you will get there. God will never give you wealth that will destroy your relationship with him; he won't give you more than what you can manage. Let's take a look at the Bible; "Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone. He gave five bags of silver to one, two bags of silver to another, and one bag of silver to the last—dividing it in proportion to their abilities. He then left on his trip. (Matt 25:14-15 NLT). So you see, God gives according to our abilities.

5. Relational Prosperity; this talks about the people that surround us. There is power in our association. God wants us to have godly people as friends like Daniel. Not only that, apart from spiritual and church friends, who are those you associate with? Career-wise, marriage wise and every other aspect you can think of. You might not have too much money yet, but you can be rich socially, with good people that are of benefit to you and vice versa.

In conclusion, be careful of conveniences, don't be too relaxed because you think you are now wealthy and famous. Beware of traps that come in the form of opportunities to gradually take you away from God or Fellowship with the brethren.

The houses will be richly stocked with goods you did not produce. You will draw water from cisterns you did not dig, and you will eat from vineyards and olive trees you did not plant. When you have eaten your fill in this land, be careful not to forget the Lord, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt. (Deut. 6:11-12. NLT). When a man knows wealth first, it is hard to bring them to Christ because they feel they don't need God! They think it's all about wealth. Even the Bible said so; Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it is for the rich to enter the Kingdom of God!" (Mark 10:23 NLT).

Don't let the devil give you wealth and hijack your soul.; And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul? ( Mark 8:36-37)

Luke 12:21 says, "Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God." The most important way to be wealthy is toward God; that is the one that counts. Money is not everything, but God is everything; it's not all about money, but it's all about God.

I'll see you at the top!!
