Solemn Lasting Days (chapter Six)

Melancholy of a girl from being born in a family of more than twenty and their chaotic life. She struggles to make a change in her life but family, friendship and love don't go easily for everyone as it seems to.

Bewa's entire day was down as she was so restless thinking about where her mum was and why she had debts from three different people. She could not stop bothering her until she got home for the day, and yet still, her mother was not around yet. There was another case in the house by the time they got back in the evening. The female amongst the triplet was harassed by a guy and his gang whom she had refused to date and came home to report to her brothers. Then they retaliated by going to the guy's hideout and injured him mercilessly, warning him never to come near their sister again. The group had threatened to kill the three of them wherever they saw them.

There was no better hideout than their father's house because anyone who was not a part of the family would not dare to enter into his territory with evil thoughts in mind. No one wants to experience the wrath of Wale Ata. But it was only going to be a matter of time were they not going to leave the house. But that was matters aside. Fade came back around 11:34 pm and knocked gently on the door hoping Bewa would be there and not Abena's room.

"Who is that Bewa," asked, angry that someone had come to knock on the door when she was fast asleep. "Bewa, open the door," Fade whispered to her daughter through the door. Quickly, she opened the door so fast, causing it to squeal at the hinges. "Mama," What is..."Ssshh," Fade signaled to her and entered, closing the door quietly."Where were you, mama? What is happening? Some people asked of you today and said you borrowed money," Bewa rushed the questions as her mother just went back and forth to pick some things into the polythene bag in her left hand. "I am leaving to my friend's place for a while," she finally said, not looking at Bewa. "Your friend's place? Mama, I need an explanation; what do you mean?" Bewa requested. "Mama!!!!!."

"What is it you want to hear enhh Bewaji? That I wanted to start a business just like you kept nagging and got myself into this mess, or that I got scammed and had to borrow again to return what I had borrowed, or that I didn't give up and wanted to do another thing and everything went down." "Now, I owe not only those women but also a notorious money lender who will probably come for me soon if I don't return his money. And I am not ready to give up on my life yet, so I am going for the main time to work." "Be the good girl to the bad mother you have always been, and I will come back soon," Fade said, trying not to cry as she turned and picked up the bag. "You don't need to see me off," she said.

Bewa was so shocked and dumbfounded; She wanted to talk seriously to her mother for not including her in the business idea and trying to do it all by herself; she wanted to ask how much it cost for her to want to abandon everything in her husband's house. She wanted to hug her and cry, asking her why she got married to a husband who couldn't be responsible for her to share her pain. She wanted to apologize for always scolding her all this time, not knowing she was trying to put in an effort. But no words came out. Nothing at all."Take this and call me whenever you want to reach me," Fade said, passing a wrapped paper she took out of her purse to Bewa. "Tell your little sister bye for me," Fade said and smiled blandlyBewa could not control her tears as they fell uncontrollably and rolled down her cheeks. "I am sorry, mama."

"You don't need to be a child, I have not been a good mother since this while, and I know. I should be the one sorry for making myself responsible for myself at a young age. I will miss you so much," Fade said, struggling not to cry, and without saying further, she opened the door and left without turning back.
