Sustaining Nigeria's Democracy Through Inclusive Governance

Our democracy is faced with a plethora of challenges. And whether it will stand the test of time, depends on the government's approach in tackling her democratic issues. There is yet to be an all inclusive government in Nigeria, were every citizen irrespective of sectional affiliations would enjoy the dividends of its democracy. This article, point towards building an all inclusive government for a better Nigeria.

Nigeria is a vibrant and diverse nation with a population of over 200 million people. It has been an independent country since 1960, but its democracy has faced numerous challenges in recent years. In order to sustain Nigeria's democracy, it is essential that the government adopts an inclusive approach to governance. Inclusive governance is a form of government that seeks to ensure the participation and representation of all citizens in decision-making processes. This type of governance allows for greater transparency, accountability, and responsiveness from the government. It also encourages public engagement with policy issues and promotes social cohesion by ensuring that everyone has an equal say in how their country is run.

As a nation still in search of its Identity, it is necessary to build an all-inclusive government. No region alone or tribe can boldly claim to have the potential to govern the nation's diversity. The concept of ethnoreligious superiority continues to creep into Nigeria's political space. This is capable of impeding national growth and development.

Nigeria's democracy has been hampered by corruption, weak institutions, lack of access to resources, and inadequate infrastructure. In order to overcome these challenges, it is essential that the Nigerian government adopts an inclusive approach to governance. This means creating policies that are designed to benefit all citizens regardless of their socioeconomic status or ethnicity. The government should also strive to create a level playing field where everyone can participate equally in decision-making processes without fear or favoritism.

Furthermore, Nigeria needs strong institutions such as independent courts and regulatory bodies, which will help ensure good governance practices are followed at all levels of society. These institutions must be given adequate resources so they can effectively carry out their duties without interference from political actors or vested interest groups who may seek to undermine them for personal gain.

Finally, it is important for Nigerians themselves to take responsibility for sustaining democracy in their country by engaging actively with politics through voting during elections and participating in civil society organizations that advocate for better policies on behalf of ordinary people across the nation. By doing this, they can hold elected officials accountable while also helping shape public opinion on key issues affecting Nigeria today, such as poverty reduction strategies or economic reforms needed for sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Overall, if Nigeria wants its democracy to survive, then it must adopt an inclusive approach to governing its people, which takes into account the diverse needs and aspirations of its population while promoting transparency and accountability within state structures at every level possible. Only then will we see true progress being made toward achieving our collective vision for a prosperous future together!
