The 2023 Nigerian Leadership: National Treasury To Be Utilized For Citizens' Good

The report by the World Poverty Clock (WPC) which revealed that over 70 million Nigerians are living in extreme poverty is a clear indication that our national development lacks pragmatic leadership. Our dear country used to command the respect from First World Countries, and as well, prides itself as the Giant of Africa, but no more.

Today, the hitherto 'Giant of Africa' is shamefully leading the rank among all countries in Africa as the country with the highest number of people living below the United Nations (UN) estimated poverty line. No thanks to the inept leadership we have been electing, albeit in the recent past years, to govern our developmental affairs.

Our dear nation, right from time immemorial, is destined to become a First World Country, one that leads the black race with splendor. And for us to transform our Third World status to First World, it will take a progressive process that creates growth which only leadership of prudence and vision should offer.

The time has become due for us to leave behind our Third World problems of poverty and squarely aspire and focus on enabling the First World solutions of prosperity and growth. It is in our very hands to do this. And we can do it. The opportunity is here, staring us in the face as we match onto the next year's general elections.

For this thirty-three percent of our population to get out of this extreme poverty line, we must elect a government that will establish good labor relations and sounds micro and macroeconomic policies - these are fundamentals that enable private and public enterprises to operate successfully. We must elect a government whose mapped-out policies would keep our creative and innovative young people keen to achieve their best potentials and talents - carving a niche for themselves and their dear country.

The 25th February 2023 presidential election is one golden opportunity for us to elect a government that will redistribute wealth by encouraging equitable participation in industries for production, not by subsidies for consumption. And to elect a government that would always be mindful of possible abuse of office and wasteful spending of our commonwealth, a government that will give every citizen a stake in the country and its future. Our currently bleeding nation craves new leadership that will turn her dilemma around into a vibrant society and thriving economy.

That new leadership, among the choices we have been presented with for the next year's presidential election, is only found in the Labour Party presidential candidate, HE Mr. Peter Obi, and his vice, Sen. Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed. Substantial evidence abounds in records that as the governor of Anambra State, Obi avoided wasteful expenditures, kept inflation low, and did not borrow foreign funds to leave the development of his home state in greater ways than he met it. With Obi-Datti, for sure, the national treasury will be utilized for the citizens' good.
