The reoccurring economic meltdown since the past seven years in our dear nation wherein the adverse effects have been expected and unexpected inflation, closing down of some business entities, and slicing down of salaries of workers, have indeed made many of our fellow citizens to lose hope about what the future holds in stock for both our individual growth and national development.
More lost hope when they saw, with clear eyes, some members of the national assembly - the supposed representatives of the people - amassing funds to accomplish their selfish interests. Others swore never to participate again in the voting exercises simply because the leaders they have hoped would turn around the deteriorating state of our socio-economic system have failed them times without number.
Why won't the blazing hope of the citizenry be dampened abysmally when certain ministers of the federation, including a whole Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN governor under this incumbent APC-led federal government, were seen acquiring N100m worth of party nomination forms in the guise of aspiring for the presidency at a time when our educational institutions were begging for funds? Even as I write, just last Monday, 1st August, the National Executive Council of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, through their national president, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, announced the extension of the ongoing more than a five-months-old strike by another four weeks.
While the nation is seeking ways to improve its sickening economy, a whole Accountant General of the Federation looted funds allegedly running into N109 billion naira, all for his own enrichment. Nigeria is in great turmoil. Actually, it has been. The people are in a grand state of sorrow. Unfortunately, they have been in such a state for so long. They were already at the threshold of hopelessness when suddenly a man that was born sixty-one years ago emerged to contest the number one position of our national affairs. Knowing his enviable antecedent as a former governor of Anambra State, our citizens were strongly convinced that the man, Peter Obi, is the amazing candidate we need in the next leadership dispensation. They saw the light in him that he could genuinely turn around the badly worsened system of consumption economy into a production economy; hence their hopes were rekindled.
The man called HE Mr. Peter Obi has been shouldering the hope of all Nigerians ever since his declaration to contest the forthcoming presidential elections. Without a doubt, the Labour Party Presidential Candidate will certainly perform well when elected the president of our Federal Republic. He will perform well because he has proved to be the only candidate among the top three contenders who understand the root causes of all challenges that plague our national development. Together with his Vice, Sen. Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, he will sincerely implement all 17 goals of the United Nation's Sustainable Development Plan for nation-building.
The confidence that both will truly work toward ending poverty in dear land remains unshackled amongst our dear people because authentic testimonies and verifiable evidence abound in historical records that the man fondly called Okwute as state governor transformed all sectors of state development simultaneously, using an overall integrated plan codenamed ANIDS - Anambra Integrated Development Strategy.
