The Journey Of Faith!

A review of the journey of faith of Abraham to an unknown country, and challenges he encountered in comparison with our contemporary society.

God works in mysterious ways that are beyond human comprehension. He created man with a mind and natural abilities: such as the ability to think and imagine and; the ability to create things, which are wonderful gifts that we should utilize maximally. However, God's supernatural ways and abilities are far beyond human understanding. They are beyond the comprehension of the human five senses. That's why some scientists make an error in concluding that there's no God; simply because they cannot ascertain or access Him using their five senses.

Sometimes, God uses natural ways to communicate with us, but other times He uses supernatural ways to speak to us. That's why the scripture clearly stated that it takes faith to walk with God. For without faith, it's impossible to please Him (Hebrews 11:6). Most times, faith doesn't work with the natural senses or physical reality on the ground; it's spiritual or supernatural, and that's why things of faith oftentimes make no sense to the natural man operating within the realm of the five senses. As such, people who choose to walk by faith often times appear ridiculous to the natural man or are seen as mentally ill.

Supposing Abraham (the father of faith) had lived in this scientific age when God asked him to leave his father's house and go to an unknown country, I can imagine how he would have been ridiculed by his contemporaries: I can imagine some group of people saying: " This man has really gone insane oo! How on Earth can you embark on a journey without knowing your destination? You are really going to end up a vagabond!". I can also see someone gossiping about father Abraham: "It seems his brain is not working well. He needs to see a psychiatrist. Those close to him should help him abeg! How can he say that God told him to leave this city and enter the bush not knowing exactly where he's traveling to?"

Also, I can see some people who met with Abraham on his way to the unknown land telling him: " You see, before you embark on any journey, you need to first sit down and make plans. You need to have directions and be certain of where you are going. This directionless journey of yours would not take you anywhere reasonable; rather, you may end up living like a slave in someone's territory ". Few meters away, I saw someone boldly telling Abraham: "Man, you better stay in your father's house with your relatives wow! How sure are you that this God that spoke to you is trustworthy? You may be attacked by evil men and get killed on the way; you will suffer! One bird at hand is better than 100 birds on top of a tree."

Similarly, I can see someone through my eyes of imagination laughing out loudly at father Abraham and saying: "look at your age! You are 75 years old, and your wife is 65 years; how on earth can she give birth to a child talkless of making you become a father of many nations? She is barren, for God's sake. Your common sense should tell you that it's just a delusion". Abraham could have gotten distracted and stopped the journey that would end up as the greatest step that he took in his life. Yet, amidst the fear and uncertainties, Abraham believed in and trusted God. He probably refused to listen to the nice and logical pieces of advice. He took a bold step of faith and went out of his father's house. He refused to listen to the contrary opinions that could deter his journey of faith.

Even though Abraham's journey of faith wasn't full of roses, He encountered trials, challenges, and delays, but in the end, God's promises for him came to pass. He made him the father of many nations. Through Abraham's faith and obedience, God established a covenant with Him that would end up blessing the whole world. Today, we are partakers of that covenant through faith in Christ Jesus. You may be on your journey to destiny by faith as Promised to you by God. And suddenly come challenges or people are ridiculing you because of your firm faith in God. Don't let them discourage you. Be like Abraham and remain focused on the promise of God. Don't let their critical voices or challenges make you turn back. As long as it's the promise of God, believe and remain obedient to him, and it will surely come to pass. For God is not a man that He should lie to! It took Abraham 25 years of waiting and trusting God after the first covenant before Sarah gave birth to Isaac.
