The Spiritual Man

He is the one that is born again into the family of God and lives in a spiritual state. He does have the Holy Spirit in him, whom he received at the moment of salvation by his faith in Christ. “For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ,” “For as many of you as having been baptized into Christ have put on Christ,” and “ are one in Christ Jesus.” “And ye are Christ’s and Christ is God’s” (Gal 3: 26- 28; 1 Cor. 3: 23).

When a spiritual Christian “puts on Christ” through baptism and becomes dead to sin. He “makes no provision for the flesh to fulfill its lusts” (Rom 13: 14). A spiritual man is able to know the deep things of God because the Holy Spirit has revealed them to him. He has the “Spirit of Christ” in him (Rom. 8: 9; Phi. 1: 19; 1 Pet. 1; 11). He is an embodiment of the Spirit of Christ. “And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.” “And shall make him of quick understanding in fear of the LORD” (Isa. 11:2- 3).

The spiritual man is one who knows what belongs to him in Christ Jesus and takes advantage of it. He is blessed with all spiritual blessings according to the plans of God for him before the foundation of the world (Eph. 1: 3-4). He has drunk deeply at the fountain and has fed regularly at the table of the Lord. He has saturated himself in the love of God. He has full knowledge of the things of God.

He knows what he has in Christ and what Christ is to him. He has an understanding of the manifold blessing of God in Christ. He has come to the reality of the gospel truth, knowing Christ as the High Priest (Heb. 4: 1- 16); as an advocate (1 Jn.2: 1); as an intercessor (Rom.8: 34; Heb. 7: 25); and as a shepherd (Ps. 23: 1; Jn. 10;1).

“Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven”. “He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him” (Dan. 2:19, 22). Daniel was a man who had the Spirit of God in him. He separated himself {with his three friends} from the Chaldean’s traditions. These four young men excel ten times more than the magicians and astrologers of that kingdom. “As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams,” “in whom is the spirit of the holy gods” (Dan. 1: 17, 20; 5: 11).

Because he is born of the spirit of God and fears God, God reveals to him, His secret; the mystery of the Kingdom.  Anytime Jesus stayed with His disciples, he taught them the plain story of the Kingdom, but when he stayed with the public, he taught them in parables. And the disciples discovered it and asked him why he always used parables in public, and he answered them, saying, “it is given unto you, to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them, it is not given.” “…them that are without, all these things are done in parables”. “The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him” (Matt. 13: 11; Mk. 44: 11; Ps. 25: 14).

Because a spiritual man is born of God and trusted in Christ, he is saved from God’s wrath. He will spend eternity in heaven with God. As he gave his life to Christ and repented from his sins, God will forgive him, and His wrath turn to mercy to the one who came to him through faith in Christ (Rom. 1: 18; Eph. 5: 6; 1 Thes. 1: 10). He that believes on the Son, had eternal life in him (Jn. 3: 15, 36). He has the life of God in him and shall not come under condemnation and wrath of God. “He that believeth on him is not condemned”; “He has everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death to life” (Jn. 3: 18; 5: 24).

The spiritual man is continuing to crucify the lusts of the flesh, the lusts of the eye, and the pride of life- the self-life. He lives in opposition to human motivators (1Jn 2: 15-17). Self (carnality) will never take one step after Jesus. “The carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.” “They that are in the flesh cannot please God” (Rom. 8: 7- 8). When we take up the cross, self is denied, the old sinful Adamic nature will be slain out of us by the word, by the Spirit, and by the blood of Jesus, and then shall we come to the mind of Christ. “For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ” (1 Cor. 2: 16). “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 2; 5). One translation [NLT] said, “you must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had”

He has come to a perfect man in Christ. He is stepping “unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.” He is “the man of God who is perfect, and thoroughly furnished unto all good works (Eph. 4: 13; Col. 1: 28; 2 Tim. 3: 17).  The spiritual man has come to know the blessed intimacy of the Holy Spirit as he is unveiled in the Word. You can be baptized with the Holy Ghost and speak in other tongues and never be in intimacy. Heretofore, the spiritual man is in a mutual relationship with the Spirit of God.

As spiritual babes, they received the infilling of the Holy Spirit and spoke with other tongues. And were all taken up with the outward manifestation. The spiritual man is the one in whom the Word has gained ascendancy over his mind and over his body. It has brought him into harmony with the will of God, for the Word of God is the Will of God. The three most dominant characteristics of the spiritual man are 1) he has the mind of Christ, 2) he has the fruits of the Spirit, and 3) he is led by the Spirit of God.
