Blessing was the kind of girl that one minute would shake her body, demonstrating the dance she would dance on Sunday - and the next - she would be humming one of those popular jams.
I never tried to stop her because I didn't like it (not that I'm saying it's bad to listen to those songs, but I'm driving somewhere). As a young girl who's in her prime, she is very sensitive - especially when you want to be preachy.
One evening, as usual, I would stop by her shop; when I decided to go home after work. We would gist, laugh—before she starts parking. Her brother would join us after he closed from work as well. On that day, we were talking about Joshua Selman—how his messages are power filled. I talked intensively, emphasizing his impact on me. I remember adding that I usually wear a bluetooth headset while listening to his messages at work. His brother added to the talk, and I could resonate—because they were familiar. My friend added to the talk, too, mentioning that she had also come across the man's messages. She goes on to show me a short clip of Selman's message on her phone—and then she said something that struck me:
"I wonder why I don't spend the time listening to messages or music of such type, instead of all this music I'm listening to—all the time—that's not adding anything to me." I could see her eyes as that word dropped—those innocent eyes mixed with guilt—like they wanted to pour. Blessing taught me a lesson I'll never forget: people see the need to change when you show them a better light. Maybe she didn't stop immediately, or next, or never—but talking about Selman's messages propelled a desire to change in her. Show people a better light; present to them what they're missing, and they will beg to change.
