Unusual Encounter!

The story is about an encounter I had with a young lady who was trying to make ends meet.

THE ENCOUNTER I HAD WITH A YOUNG LADY TODAY

Today, 13/09/2022, I was going somewhere around 12:30 pm, and beside the Police Headquarters here in Ilorin, I noticed that a young lady, probably in her early 20s, was accosting me. I looked back, and she asked me to please stop. And I asked, "Hope no problem, young lady?" And she replied, "No problem, sir, I just want to introduce you to something." From her appearance, she looked so appealing and fair in complexion, and she also covered her head up with a neat white hijab. And I pressed my question further, " What do you want to introduce to me because I'm in haste? I have an appointment to catch up somewhere". And she responded swiftly by asking me if I had heard about the "SECURE YOUR FUT*RE" investment, and I nodded my head in negative action (though I had heard about it before, I just decided to feign ignorance in her presence." She then explained further that it is a company that helps people to secure their future through various investments. She wanted to continue the explanation; I decided to wade into critical questions. The first question I asked was, " Young lady, as the company's representative, have they secured your future? (The question looks harsh, but it was asked politely with the pure intention not to hurt her feelings). She laughed, and her response was, "Yes, they have secured my future." I told her that if the company had indeed secured her future as she claimed, she would not be under the scorching sun hustling for customers for her acclaimed "Future Securer."

My blunt response dazed her.

All the above conversations took place within just 3minutes or so. Before I left the place for my eventual destination, I inquired if she had eaten anything since morning because she looked somehow exhausted after the short encounter with me, and she replied that she was hungry and would appreciate any amount I gave her to at least eat something. Thereafter, I gave her little amount to eat and further advised her to go and learn a vocation or trade because, according to her, she was looking for money to fund her tertiary education. In my mind, I was wondering how someone whose "future has been secured" would be starving.

WHAT I OBSERVED!

I have reiterated several times on this my Facebook timeline that parents should compel their offspring to accompany formal education with either a trade or a vocation. Once they get to JSS 2 or 3, coerce them to learn something. The Nigerian government has no plan for the new generation we are all grooming now. Once they have learned something, at least they would be able to stand on their own instead of being turned into slaves by these so-called recruiting companies whose sole aim is to make profits. Most of your girls who are into the sales of GN*D, Neol*fe, and other merchants of modern slavery are into semi- prostitution (sorry to use such a vulgar phrase). The reason for making the aforementioned assertion is that many of the people they will be meeting to advertise their investments and supplements to, especially men, would always want to take advantage of their vulnerability. Only God knows the number of randy men who would have collected their phone numbers in a bid to have illicit affairs with them. I have equally care to tell whoever cares to listen that poverty always has a way of making girls susceptible to sexual molestation and harassment.

LESSON TO BE LEARNT

Dear sir, please be a responsible father and husband to your children and wife. You are the vehicle through which your kids came to this world. You should not shift responsibilities to little children even if you are overwhelmed by responsibilities. It's an irresponsible father who does that. Wisdom also demands you to also empower your wife. Death could knock on the door at any time. If a man fails to empower his wife, his children would be used as housemaids by relatives after his death.

Dear mothers, never allow your daughters to work for these merchants of modern slavery, irrespective of your pitiable situation. Don't prematurely ruin their future because of the poverty plaguing the family. At age 22 and below, you are supposed to be the one working for their overall well-being, not the other way round, because they did not fall from the sky.

Dear potential male customer, please be human and reasonable for once. Stop feasting on their vulnerability to "change" them. That five minutes could ruin your future. If you don't have those young girls as daughters, you will have them as sisters. Now, close your eyes and imagine your daughter or sister being in that condition and subsequently being taken advantage of. How would you feel? These girls are helpless and hapless; you could have assisted them without expecting anything in return. Anybody could have found him or herself in a similar situation. Let your manhood stop swimming all available rivers.
